The Castello di Brolio expresses the refined elegance that is only specific to the terroir of Brolio. It is a "seamless wine" achieved by selecting the best grapes of Brolio, matured in barriques, with a long fining in the bottle that enhances its noble elegance.
Castello di Brolio’s production is closely connected to the evolution of the year’s harvest. Therefore, it is only produced in excellent vintages, creating complex wine, with great style and texture.
Production Area: Brolio, Gaiole in Chianti Classico
The grapes come from vineyards set 1,150 – 1,312 feet above sea level, with south-southwest exposure, planted in medium density land with a predominance of calcareous rocks and pebbles.
Frigid winter days with temperatures often dropping to 32 degrees (minimum registered: 12 degrees on January 5th) continued until March. April and May were quite rainy with average temperatures ranging around 52-54 degrees. The vines’ growing phase began again with the buds opening at the end of April: flowering took place regularly during the month of May. Summer months were mild. (68-75degrees) with scarce rainfall. Beginning on August 20th, warm, sunny days continued through October. These ideal conditions made it possible for the grapes to reach perfect maturation.
The harvest began with Merlot at the beginning of September, followed by Sangiovese as per September 20th.
Blend: Sangiovese with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
Fermentation temperature: 82-88° F
Post-fermentation maceration: 19 days
Maturation: 18 months in two-thirds new barriques
Bottling: July 2008
Tasting notes:
With this harvest, it was finally possible for the Sangiovese to express its maximum potential. Intense ruby color with garnet tinges, it has a beautiful aromatic complex bouquet. Chocolate/coffee and spices palate, it possesses elegant tannin content and a lingering finish.

#5 in the Top 100 of 2009!
Shows amazing aromas of blackberry,
with hints of vanilla and flowers, along
with black licorice and crushed berries.
Full-bodied, with wonderfully caressing,
ultrafine tannins. Very balanced and long.
Best after 2011. 6,170 cases made.
nt tannin content and a lingering finish.
